HolyCross 2 Portumna 5;
Portumna travelled to Holycross with 4 games still to play in the league with every result an important one. Holycross were awarded a penalty in the first minute and was struck firmly towards the left corner but John O’Meara rose to the occasion as he has done before to spring across the goals and with a firm right hand turned the ball away. Portumna defended the resulting corner and lifted by John’s save anchored their play around the pitch. On 26 mins Ronan O’Meara delivered a ball through for Kevin Brummell to finish well into right side of goal. Portumna had the best of play in the first half and could have been another two up but for some excellent keeping from the home keeper.Holy cross hit the ground running from the off in the second half and had Portumna on the back foot for twenty minutes where they got their first goal on 52 mins from a superbly taken left footed free from just outside the box. They got their second with a well taken strike to bottom RH corner across the keeper on 67 mins. Portumna had to re-discover their first half form to halt the Holycross momentum and they did so 2 minutes later when Kevin Brummill responded to the save the keeper made from a Ronan O’Meara shot and finished from a tight angle. On 75 minutes Portumna struck again when Rory Finnegan found the net from a Paddy ‘Sullivan deliver to the front of the box. Portumna wrapped it up 5 minutes later whe Ronan O’Meara curled a left footer to the top left corner.
